Exhibition title: Foggy Notions
Artist: Johnston Foster
Exhibition dates: August 26 – October 7, 2011
Exhibition space: Philip J. Steele Gallery
Johnston Foster creates sculptures by using discarded materials that he finds strewn across highways, dumpsters and alleys. By resurrecting and reinventing items consumers have tossed aside, the artist examines the themes of materialism, gluttony and wastefulness. Foster’s work comes out of a relationship with our consumerist, material-driven society. He infuses his objects with a combination of wide-eyed innocence and an open-ended sensibility that is simultaneously inviting and foreboding.
